Among the upheavals that the First World War has brought, are the disastrous consequences on French film production, until then the first in the world. Accompanied by excerpts of correspondence exchanged between the pioneers of the cinema, this documentary draws up the panorama of the flourishing French production before 1914, examines the immediate consequences of the conflict on the development of the nascent cinema, and reveals how the American film industry took advantage of this period to develop dramatically and take, well, a war ahead.
